Abstract for 6. Ethical limits of science and technology in Frankenstein and The last man

The present study is about the representations of science, technology, and ethics in Frankenstein and The Last Man. It attempts to highlight a view of science and technology in connection to morally accepted values from the angle of creative writing. From a reader-response perspective, this article aims at examining the representation of scientific and technological achievement and the limits of their method. The study has found that the quest for knowledge and its applied uses can result in moral and ethical alienation and generate hardships for mankind as is highlighted in the desperate commitment of the protagonist to destroy what his wits have created.
